(Hong Kong, December 11, 2008) – Phuket’s distinctive lifestyle resort, Indigo Pearl, has been voted 'Best Design Concept' in Southeast Asia in the prestigious annual Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards (HAPA).
The accolade recognised the 5-star resort's unique fusion of modern architecture and Thai tin-mining heritage, designed by internationally renowned architect Bill Bensley.
The HAPA are organised by World Asia Publishing (WAP), which publishes the leading hospitality magazine, Hospitality Asia, honouring the region's most outstanding hotels and resorts.
Indigo Pearl topped a list of five new properties recognised for their design, ahead of the Millennium Hilton Bangkok, Maya Ubud Resort & Spa and Bulgari Resort in Bali, and G Hotel Penang.
The award was presented at a glittering ceremony on November 28 at the JW Marriot Kuala Lumpur.
The HAPA honour was collected as Indigo Pearl also topped Tripadvisor's list of 260 hotels and resorts in Phuket most applauded by online voters.
Indigo Pearl has attracted worldwide acclaim since opening two years ago next to Nai Yang Beach, just 10 minutes from Phuket International Airport.
Most recently the resort was voted among Asia’s Top 25 Best Leisure Hotels and Resorts in the Smart Travel Asia ‘Best in Travel Poll 2008’.
Last year it was named one of the best new hotels in the world by Condé Nast Traveler (US), 'Most Stylish Hotel' by ELLE magazine, Singapore, and ranked among the “TOP 50 Dream Resorts” by Honeymoon and Travel magazine.
It was also named one of Asia’s best new hotels in the newly released travel book “Tablet 10 Top Ten New Hotels: Asia & Africa” highlighting Asia and Africa’s ten most unique and exciting new hotels.
